Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’

Lovely shrubby salvia with strong red flowers from mid-summer

Established plants in 2 litre containers

Description

Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’ is a fabulous, long-flowering shrubby Saliva with slightly larger leaves than many of its shrubby salvia kin and rich red flowers that emerge in late spring and continue right through into autumn. Like all other shrubby salvias, Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’ is loved by bees and other pollinators. It works well combined with roses, in herb gardens or among other herbaceous planting. We also grow them in containers where they make wonderful, long-lasting displays.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 2 litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of around 50cm (22 inches) with a slightly smaller spread.

Growing Advice

Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’ are easy plants to grow and care for. In general they prefer good drainage and as much sun as possible, and are fairly drought-resistant though they shouldn’t be allowed to completely dry out. For the most prolific flowering, cut back to a low bud in early spring, deadhead through summer and trim again in late summer to promote autumn flowering. They also benefit from pinching out when in early growth in the season to keep the foliage compact and dense. Though hardy a deep frost shortly after pruning might delay growth and flowering, so provide some protection if a frost is forecast and you’ve recently pruned back, or delay pruning back until frosts are clear for the season.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
