Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’

Masses of small pale lemon yellow flowers in mid to late summer

Established plants in 2 litre containers

Description

Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’ is our favourite cultivar of coreopsis – a garden plant with a huge range of cultivars that provides fabulous late-season colour with masses and masses of long-lasting flowers. ‘Moonbeam’ stands out for us because of the way the dark, feathery foliage contrasts beautifully with the pale lemon-yellow flowers that cover the plant from mid summer onwards (often into autumn). The flowers have that slightly luminescent quality about them that makes them really stand out at twilight, but it also gives the plant a strong presence as the sun lowers in the sky as the summer wanes and softens. We wouldn’t be without it in our garden.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 2 litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of about 50cm (22 inches) with a similar spread.

Growing Advice

Coreopsis plants are generally versatile and easy to grow, and are relatively untroubled by pests and diseases. They will flower best in full sun locations, but will take some shade and the foliage is quite distinctive and adds a degree of interest on its own. Give them decent drainage to ensure they come through the winter. As with most perennials a tidy up in spring is beneficial, and as the flowers are small and numerous we wouldn’t recommend deadheading – instead give the plant a quick sheer all over in mid-summer once the first mass of flowers are over. This will promote more flowering and keep the display going until late in the season.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
