Aubrieta cultorum ‘Leichtlinii’

Low-growing, evergreen trailing plant with masses of magenta-coloured flowers from late spring

Price is for 2 plants in 1 litre containers

Description

Aubrieta cultorum ‘Leichtlinii’ is one of those statement plants that marks a moment in the year – that time when late spring gives way to early summer, and warmth and sunshine are increasingly recapturing the landscape. The cascades of lavender, blue and purple flowers are everywhere for a month or so, painting stone walls down country lanes, tumbling over containers and mingling and boldly contrasting with late-flowering daffodils and tulips. This cultivar has a mass of magenta, which like other aubrietas arise from a neat and compact mat of low-growing, evergreen foliage. It is ideal atop grown atop walls, where it will climb and tumble, lining paths or as ground-cover in beds, or combined with late spring-flowering bulbs in containers.
These established plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 1 litre pots (the price is for two of these plants). They are garden-ready and can be planted out in their final position in the garden or in containers this year, ready for a show of flowers next spring. They will flower from late spring and will grow to an ultimate height of around 15cm (4 inches) with a spread of 45cm or so (15-20 inches).

Growing Advice

Like many alpine plants, Aubrietas are happy in drier conditions – chalky slopes and walls are ideal. They certainly need sharp drainage and won’t tolerate sitting in wet conditions. They like to be in full sun, but will tolerate a little shade. Once the flowering is over, trim back all over and the foliage will grow and extend in preparation for another flush of flowers the following year.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
