Achillea ptarmica ‘Marshmallow’

Long-flowering dwarf Yarrow with double-white flowers in summer

Price is for two plants in 1 litre containers

Description

Achillea ptarmica ‘Marshmallow’ is a prolific and long-flowering dwarf garden Achillea (Yarrow) cultivar that is great for containers in sun or in rock or gravel gardens, and can also be used as a front of border plant. This cultivar has the typical ferny-like, strongly-textured foliage but grows into a dainty, compact clump no more than 30cm (12 inches) or so high. In summer the foliage is topped with balls of pure white, fluffy-looking double-flowers that give the plant a presence beyond its diminutive size. If dead-headed and grown in full sun we find the flowers can go for ages, certainly right through summer and into early autumn.
These established plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 1 litre pots (the price is for two of these plants). They will grow to an ultimate height of around 30cm (12 inches) with similar spread.

Growing Advice

Achilleas are dead easy to grow, and, unlike its taller cousins, this cultivar doesn’t even need staking. Grow it in full sun if you possibly can – it will thank you with plenty of flowers – and ensure it has good drainage but doesn’t fully dry out. It’s great in poor soils, so finds an easy home in rock gardens, on rocky slopes, or in containers. Keep it dead-headed to prolong the flowering and don’t be frightened to pinch out the foliage in spring to maximise the plant’s compact, neat habit.
