Veronica spicata ‘Blue Charm’

Violet-blue spikes of flowers from mid-summer onwards

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Veronica spicata ‘Blue Charm’ is (appropriately enough) a charming little herbaceous plant with long-lasting spikes of blue flowers throughout summer. The foliage emerges in a clump in spring and grows in a dense, neat compact form before sending up tall spikes of buds in early summer that open into clusters of rich violet-blue flowers. The flowers last a long time and if dead-headed as they start to fade the plant can bloom again later in the season.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two-litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of about 45-50cm (18-20inches) in good soils with a similar spread.

Growing Advice

Garden Speedwells are generally versatile and easy plants to grow. They prefer as much sun as you can give them for the best flowering performance. They will work in spots with some shade but may grow a little leggy in too much shade. They do best where planted in soils with sharp drainage (particularly not liking waterlogged soils over winter) but as they are shallow-rooted they do need consistent moisture too, so make sure to water them in dry spells and plant in soils with retentive organic matter. Like other herbaceous perennials they also benefit from a good tidy in spring and deadheading of flowers during the growing season.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
