Solidago ‘Golden Dwarf’ (2 x 1 litre plants)

Dwarf Golden Rod cultivar with masses of bright yellow flowers in late summer

Price is for two plants in 1-litre containers

Description

Solidago ‘Golden Dwarf’ is a densely-growing, compact dwarf version of the popular golden rod plant, a long-time staple of prairie gardens and backs of shrub and herbaceous borders. Like its taller-growing kin, this cultivar puts on a vivid show of bright yellow flowers from late summer into early autumn, the yellow flower heads providing a mass of colour above the stout, upright-growing mid-green foliage. Unlike its taller kin, it won’t flop in borders and its height will remain restricted, making it a great front of border option or specimen plant in a container. It works well in prairie or cottage garden schemes, or used to add punches of colour to more modern, formal arrangements.
These established plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 1-litre containers (the price is for two of these plants). They will grow to an ultimate height of about 60cm with a spread of around half that.

Growing Advice

Solidagos are sun lovers, and as they are originally prairie plants, prefer well-drained, light soils and aren’t too fussy about the richness of the soil otherwise. They don’t like to completely dry out though (they are often found on river banks), so don’t put them in the driest spot in the garden.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
