Description
Silene coronaria (formerly Lychnis coronaria) is a lovely herbaceous perennial that is ideal for filling out sunny borders. It forms mounds of felted, silvery-grey leaves before sending up upright stems in summer topped by masses of vivid magenta blooms. Though short-lived it makes a real statement in a sunny spot, and will mingle happily with a range of cottage garden plants but will also work in Mediterranean or dry/gravel garden set ups thanks to its attractive mounds of silver foliage.
