Description
Salvia ‘Love and Wishes’ is the best known of the popular Wishes series of garden Salvias. It is justifiably popular, in our view, as it has a very refined air about it, with lightly aromatic foliage that emerges bright green in spring and matures with the season to a rich, deep green. The lush feel of the plant then contrasts when the deep purple flower stems that emerge in summer, which develop into dusky purple-red calyxes and eventually to the richest of magenta flowers that hang down from the calyxes in the most compelling, insouciant fashion. The plant flowers over a long period throughout the summer, fading out slowly into the last months of autumn.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 2 litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of around 80cm (30 inches) with a spread of around 50cm (20 inches).
Growing Advice
Salvia ‘Love and Wishes’ are real sun lovers. They will flower most profusely in full sun locations and like sharp drainage. Because they can be borderline tender, we recommend growing them in pots that can be brought into some shelter over winter, or otherwise grown as annuals – they take easily from cuttings that can be sheltered in winter and brought into growth the following spring.
