Description
Leucanthemum x ‘Madonna’ is a lovely little summer plant that is perfect for containers or mass planted at the front of sunny borders. The semi-evergreen foliage has a mounding habit and is neat and compact, settling into a deep green as it matures in summer, before masses of buds give way to cheery, large daisy-like flowers from early summer right the way through the growing season. The plants are low-maintenance and easy to grow, and largely undisturbed by pests and diseases.
These established plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 1 litre containers (the price is for 2 plants in 1 litre containers). They will grow to an ultimate height of about 20-30cm (8-12 inches) with a similar spread.
Growing Advice
Sun, sun and more sun! They will flower in partial shade but will always give the best, most long-lasting display in full sun situations. They are reasonably resilient to drought but, of course, will need looking after if grown in pots. Once the first flush of flowers slow down towards mid-summer give the whole plant a very light trim and tidy to encourage reblooms, otherwise deadheading throughout the rest of the season to keep the colour coming. They are hardy in all but the harshest of winters, but dislike winter wet, so if in the ground try to keep them sited somewhere with well-draining soil, and give plants in pots some protection from the heaviest and most prolonged winter rains.
