Erodium x variabile ‘Bishops White’

Low-growing evergreen alpine with masses of white flowers in late spring and early summer

Price is for 2 established plants supplied in 1 litre containers

Description

Erodium x variabile ‘Bishops White’ is a brilliant, charming but punchy little alpine that is closely related to geraniums and pelargoniums. It has low-growing mounds of subtly divided evergreen grey-green foliage that stays neat and compact, even as it spreads when happy. In late spring and early summer masses of small, gem-like five-petalled white flowers emerge above the foliage, each flower deeply veined and held tidily above the foliage so they catch the light. Once the main show of flowers is over, the plant will sporadically flower throughout the rest of summer and into autumn, in our experience, but the foliage will stay looking neat and green throughout.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 1 litre containers (the price is for two of these plants). They will grow to an ultimate height of about 20cm and a spread of around 50cm.

Growing Advice

Erodiums are great for any situation where you’d plant alpines, and work well in pots or as edging plants. They are reliable and easy to grow – though like most alpines will flourish where they have well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. Once the main flowering is over you can tidy up any spent flower-heads, though for the most part we find this unnecessary.
