Echeveria ‘Pollux’

Lovely succulent with silver leaves turning lilac as the season progresses

Price is for three 15cm wide plants in 9cm containers

Description

Echeveria ‘Pollux’ is a lovely hybrid succulent with wonderful colouration. In the early part of the season the fleshy leaves grow a bright grey / silver colour, with a very subtle hint of the more dramatic colours to come. As the season progresses the leaves take on hints of pink and lilac, around the edges at first and then the top leaves, most exposed to the sunlight, turn into a subtle blend of silver, grey and lilac, with the waxy surface giving the leaves a textured look. We grow some of ours for part of the year indoors, including in lower light conditions (they do prefer high light though), where the colours shift subtly to moody greys and purples. All of this complements the lovely structure and intriguing flowers Echeveria plants bring to any display.
These established plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall, and are provided in 9cm containers (the price is for three of this plants). They are well-established succulents, reaching around 15cm across currently. They will grow to an ultimate height of around 5-10cm (a little higher when the flower stalks emerge) and a spread of around 20cm (8 inches).

Growing Advice

Most common Echeveria species are easy to grow. They should never be allowed to sit in water as this can rot the plant or cause fungal diseases, and should be potted into very-well drained soil – something that is very gritty or a specialist succulent or cactus potting soil will work. They need as much light as possible to prevent too much stretching – though if bringing them outside in summer make sure you acclimatise them to the sun or the leaves can burn. They can be planted in a well-drained spot in the garden, as they will cope with a small amount of frost. Generally they are better grown as house plants in well-lit spaces indoors. Removing dead leaves as they grow can minimise the impact of pests, which can hide out in the lower part of the plant. This is particularly important to do in spring to catch any mealy bugs and that have taken shelter from the winter weather!
