Persicaria campanulata

Vigorous, tall perennial with heather-like white flowers on arching stems

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Persicaria campanulata is a really interesting persicaria that adds a touch of lushness and wildness to any planting scheme. It has small, but otherwise typical persicaria ovate leaves with a dusty green sheen that grow closely together, and in summer puts on sprays of pale pink, heather like flowers that arch above the clumps of foliage in a really attractive and relaxed fashion. The flowers continue right through until the first frosts – it’s one of the longest flowering plants in our garden. It’s a fabulous weed-suppressant, but we also use it to tie together louder, showier plants, as well as to give the garden a more relaxed vibe. It is right at home in woodland and water marginal schemes but, like many persicarias, is completely versatile, and will work as a mid to back of border perennial in traditional borders, as well as in more naturalistic planting schemes.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown  in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two-litre containers. They will grow to a height of around 1 metre or 3 feet in the right soil.

Growing Advice

Persicaria campanulatas are generally very easy to grow plants. They prefer to be on the moist side (though avoid waterlogged locations in winter) – hence they are well suited to water margins, but will survive in drier soil, though perhaps without as dense a flowering display. They are very hardy and will come back strongly each spring. They are also generally pest-free and avoided by slugs and rabbits, despite the lush-looking foliage.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
