Lysimachia ciliata ‘Firecracker’

Hardy perennial with pale-yellow flowers above attractive, upright-growing coppery-brown foliage

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Lysimachia ciliata ‘Firecracker’ is a wonderfully vigorous plant (but one that never gets out of control) that will provide a strong splash of colour and interest in the garden right through the summer. This cultivar has really unusual rich coppery-brown-green foliage that provides an excellent foil for the vibrant golden-yellow, star-shaped flowers. It emerges as whorled spikes of leaves in spring and quickly throws up strong, sturdy stems that open from July onwards into an abundance of flowers. It has an upright habit and will mingle effectively in herbaceous borders where its unusual foliage colour brings texture and variation to any planting scheme.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of around 70cm (28 inches) with a spread of around half that.

Growing Advice

Loosestrifes make excellent garden plants for a number of conditions. Lysimachia ciliata will perform better with soil that retains moisture during summer and in full-sun or partial sun locations for the strongest flowering performance. It can spread via underground rhizomes to fill in space, so the most care that it is likely to need will be an annual check on its growth where it needs to be contained. In our experience it is generally disease and pest free.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
