Erigeron karvinskianus

Versatile, long-flowering and easy-to-grow perennial daisy

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Erigeron karvinskianus (Mexican Fleabane) is a fabulous, easy to grow and trouble-free performer that no garden should be without. It is enjoying very much a ‘plant of the moment’ period, and for good reasons. From mid-spring onwards its flowers appear as small white daisy-like flowers that age to pink, giving the whole plant a mixture of flowers in varying shades of white and pink at any one time.
The flowers continue through the whole growing season right up until the frosts and sometimes even beyond in the absence of hard frosts, in our experience. The foliage is low-growing and it spreads beautifully, seeking out gaps and cracks that make it wonderful for knitting plants together at the front of a herbaceous border or cottage garden and even better in graveled areas or even growing vertically down walls. They also work great in containers, and are pretty much bomb-proof as long as they get some water in very dry spells.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two-litre containers. They will flower from May until the first frosts.

Growing Advice

Erigeron karvinskianus, as its common name reveals, are plants of Mexican origin and as such like as much sun as you can give them. Though they will grow in most soil types, they prefer neutral soil with good drainage – if you can give them this and a sunny spot they’ll reward you with masses of flowers that just keep coming. Though fully winter hardy in my experience, in early spring you may want to cut the plant back a little to tidy it up after winter, which will often serve the double-purpose of waking the plant up. It doesn’t need lots of feeding, and will do equally as well in poor soil.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
