Erigeron alpinus (2 x 1 litre plants)

Low-growing hardy perennial with a profusion of pale-pink daisy-like flowers in summer

Price is for two established plants in one-litre containers

Description

Erigeron alpinus, the Mountain Fleabane, is a wild cousin of the more well-known Erigeron karvinskianus. It forms neat clumps of low, spoon-shaped medium green leaves, above which strong stems emerge holding large flowers with lilac-blue to red-purple coloured petals and a greenish yellow centre. It’s a very attractive, easy to grow hardy perennial that will be most at home in a well-drained spot in a rockery, or with access to the sun at the front of a border. Because of their mounding habit and profuse flowering they are also great in containers.
These established plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are provided in one-litre containers (the price is for two of these plants). They will grow to an ultimate height of about 25cm (10 inches) and a spread of around 30cm (12 inches).

Growing Advice

Like all plants from mountainous regions, Erigeron alpinus grows best in well-drained soils with access to as much sun as possible. It is not too fussy otherwise about the soil type, and, having made its home high up in the Alps, is plenty hardy enough to withstand the worst cold a UK winter can throw at it.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
