Campanula lactiflora ‘Loddon Anna’

Tall-growing Milky Bellflower with clusters of pale-pink flowers from mid-summer

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Campanula lactiflora ‘Loddon Anna’ is a wonderful, rightly popular garden campanula that is quintessentially cottage garden. Like many campanulas it is versatile and adaptable, will cope in a range of soils and partially shaded as well as full sun locations. It has neat, dense and strong bright green foliage that emerges in mid spring and grows into a strong clump, making its presence clearly felt in garden borders. As summer develops the top of the plants erupt in a mass of flowering buds that open into the most romantic bell-shaped flowers that are a very pale pink in colour – a colour that sings in the early twilight and that seems to be white without ever quite being white and pink without ever being pink. It’s one of those plants that, next only to roses perhaps, is the very picture of a summer garden on this temperate island of ours.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two-litre containers. With good soil it can reach heights of over a metre (3-4 feet), with a spread of around half of that.

Growing Advice

Bellflowers are generally versatile and rewarding flowers to grow. They grow well in partial-sun or full-sun locations, and need soil that doesn’t dry out too quickly nor that becomes waterlogged in winter. This particular cultivar is a strong, tall plant that makes it best suited to planting locations in the middle or possibly back of a mixed or perennial border (it mingles beautifully). Treat them like other border herbaceous perennials and tidy them up in early spring to make way for the new growth.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
