Campanula glomerata

Clustered Bellflower with vibrant purple flowers from mid-summer

Established plants in 2 litre containers

Description

Campanula glomerata is an archetypal cottage garden plant that combines beautifully with other border perennials and is adaptable and versatile. It has broad, slightly hairy foliage that forms a solid clump as it emerges in spring. Strong stems rise up through this foliage in mid to late spring, which develop into masses of lime green buds that open into strong mauve-purple flowers in dense clusters that go on through late spring and into mid-summer, and will emerge again sporadically throughout the summer.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 2 litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of about 45-50cm (18-20inches) in good soils with a similar spread.

Growing Advice

Bellflowers are generally versatile and rewarding flowers to grow. They grow well in partial-sun or full-sun locations, and need soil that doesn’t dry out too quickly nor that becomes waterlogged in winter. The strong squat stems on this species of Campanula give the plant extra versatility, making it a good choice for front or mid border spots in more exposed locations as much as among other border plants in more sheltered spots. Treat them like other border herbaceous perennials and tidy them up in early spring to make way for the new growth.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
