Calamintha nepeta ‘Blue Cloud’

Aromatic foliage with masses of pastel-blue flowers for a long period from late summer

Price is for three plants in 9cm containers

Description

Calamintha nepeta ‘Blue Cloud’ (Lesser Calaminth) is a great versatile plant for a range of situations in sunny spots. It makes compact and dense bushes of aromatic mid-green foliage, and in late summer erupts into a froth of soft blue, two-lipped flowers held on upright stems. The flowering will often go on to the first frosts. When brushed against or crushed the foliage gives off a fresh minty-lemon fragrance. Calaminthas make great specimen plants in a rock or gravel area, mingled with herbs in a herb garden, or in containers. Because they tend to tumble around and flower so long they’ll also work planted on top of walls or at the front of borders lining paths.
These plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in 9cm containers (the price is for 3 of these plants). They will grow to an ultimate height of about 45cm (18 inches) and a similar spread.

Growing Advice

Lesser calaminth likes sun and slightly alkaline soil. They prefer evenly moist soil but in our experience grow better when the soil is well-drained and on the drier side. They are drought-resistant once established. Cut back to neat clumps once the flowering is over.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
