Arenaria montana

Evergreen alpine plant with masses of white flowers in late spring and early summer

Price is for two established plants in 1 litre containers

Description

Arenaria montana is a lovely little evergreen alpine plant, found natively in the mountains of south-west Europe. It’s a low-maintenance, mounding plant that puts on masses of soft white flowers in early summer, and sporadically throughout summer. It is very cold-hardy and will persist for a number of years. It makes an excellent front of border plant, or can take a more central place in a rock garden or gravel garden. It is also great for containers due to its diminutive side, and will happily cascade over the front of a container or down a wall.
These established plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall, and are supplied in 1 litre containers. They will grow to around 10-15cm tall (4-5 inches), with a spread of around 30cm (12 inches).

Growing Advice

Arenarias are very easy plants to care for, providing mounds of evergreen foliage through winter. Like many mountain plants, they are best suited for free-draining areas, though don’t they won’t like being completely dry. Once the flowering is over, a light trim will help the foliage to retain a nice structural shape, and promote further flowering later in summer.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
