Anthemis tinctoria ‘Kelwayi’

Dyer’s Chamomile cultivar with large bright yellow flowers and feathery foliage

Established plants in two-litre containers

Description

Anthemis tinctoria ‘Kelwayi’ is a refined cultivar of the species commonly known as Dyer’s Chamomile. The plant grows into a mound of feathery and finely divided, aromatic foliage, with masses of bright yellow flowers emerging in summer and going on and on throughout the season. The flowers of this cultivar are slightly larger than that of the species. As its common name suggests, this form of Chamomile is often used to produce dyes – but it also offers a bright and colourful presence in the summer border and is much loved by pollinators of all sorts. The plant will work excellently in informal wildflower or prairie gardens, but grown in poor, well-drained soil in lots of sun will also retain enough structure to work in more formal schemes or in containers.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall in peat-free compost and are provided in two-litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of 60-90cm (2 to 3 feet) with a similar spread.

More Information

For the best flowering display find a spot of them that is in full-sun and well-draining. In richer soils they tend to sprawl due to the foliage growth (we quite like that though as it adds a naturalistic touch to areas of the garden we plant them – they look particularly effective in informal drifts in our experience). As ever deadheading will prolong the flower display. They are fully hardy but will likely struggle in heavy soils in wet winters, so make sure the drainage is as good as possible.

Before ordering with us please make sure you read the pages below to help you understand what to expect when buying plants online from a nursery such as ours. For instance the photographs in our listings are intended to give you an impression of our plants in their mature (and usually flowering) form. The last photograph in this listing provides an indication of the size of the plant to expect when you buy from us. It is not a guarantee of the way the top growth will look when you receive the plant(s), as this will depend on the time of the season you have ordered the plant and it simply isn’t possible to provide photographs of the plants at every stage of growth during the year. Plants ordered in spring, autumn or winter for example may have much reduced or tired top growth that will regrow later in the season / the following season and you should be aware of this when ordering at these times. If you have any questions about the current condition of any of our plants please do get in touch, or see the links below for more information about what to expect.
