Description
Lamium orvala is a striking, architecturally elegant hardy perennial that brings lush colour and reliable structure to the shaded corners of a garden. Commonly known as “Balm-Leaved Red Deadnettle,” this lovely woodland plant is completely non-invasive, forming clean, neat clumps rather than running rampantly like other deadnettle varieties. It features handsome, heart-shaped, slightly hairy dark green leaves that closely resemble soft lemon balm foliage. In late spring it throws up sturdy upright stems bearing eye-catching whorls of large, hooded, pinkish-purple flowers with beautifully speckled throats that look a lot like miniature orchids or foxgloves (in our view!).
