Crocosmia ‘Carmine Brilliant’

Crocosmia ‘Carmine Brilliant’ is a striking plant that gives the garden real energy in late summer and into early autumn. From mid-spring onwards swaths of sword-shaped, upright grassy foliage emerge from the underground corms, the vigour of which portends the dramatic flowering display to come later in the summer. When the flowers do arrive they do so on strong stems that at the top and often just above the foliage, opening into a striking and energising deep orange and red colour. ‘Carmine Brilliant’ is a small to mid-height crocosmia, and as such is suited to a range of garden situations including large containers, provided they are not allowed to dry out too much. Like all crocosmias, Crocosmia ‘Carmine Brilliant’ is one of the best plants for late summer colour – and provides architectural interest once the flowering is over and into autumn.

These established, garden-ready plants have been grown in peat-free compost at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied in two-litre containers. The foliage will grow to an ultimate height of around 60cm (two feet or so), with flowers held sometimes a little above that. They spread via corms underground, and can form a substantial patch in a year or two, given the right conditions.
